As part of a referral from the Victim Rights Law Center, Erin K. Higgins and Jan M. Kendrick represented a single mother pro bono in defending against a contempt complaint filed by the purported representative of her former abuser’s estate, seeking to recover more than $25,000 allegedly due to the estate as a result of an old divorce judgment. Erin and Jan challenged the validity of the former abuser’s will, and filed cross-complaints seeking an award of past-due child support and an order requiring the former abuser’s estate to contribute to the childrens’ college education expenses. The representative ultimately withdrew the contempt complaint and released the firm’s client from all of her obligations under the divorce judgment.
