October 2016
Conn Kavanaugh was proud to support one of its Partners, Carol A. Starkey, recently elected as the 95th President of the Boston Bar Association (BBA), at this year’s Annual Meeting Luncheon, held on October 20, 2016 at the Westin Copley in Boston. Carol began her tenure as President by using the BBA’s Annual Luncheon as an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the BBA’s Amicus Committee for their dedication and commitment to justice. Carol reminded the crowd that, “Over the years, courts have, time and again, cited BBA amicus briefs, both during oral arguments and in their written decisions. The dedication and talent of our Amicus volunteers have helped shape the BBA into an organization whose opinion matters.”
After a summary of some of their notable contributions, the Amicus Committee was invited to join her on stage to be acknowledged for their hard work. Carol also described her goals for her year as President to, “harness the expertise and talent of BBA members at large, from all different practice areas, to implement bigger and broader professional development programming that connects lawyers not only across practice areas, but also with a cross section of industry.”
Attendees were also treated to wonderful lunch and a thought provoking presentation by Professor David Wilkins of Harvard Law School. Professor Wilkins is the Lester Kissel Professor of Law, the Vice Dean for Global Initiatives on the Legal Profession, and the Faculty Director of the Center on the Legal Profession at Harvard Law School.
Professor Wilkins addressed a number of the concerns facing the legal profession with humor and a strong dose of reality. With Professor Wilkins leading the way, we have no doubt that the legal profession will be able to adapt to the challenges of the future.
As always, the BBA’s Annual Luncheon was a fantastic event and the firm was very proud to have one of its own Partners at the helm this year.
Congratulations again to Carol on the first of many successful BBA events!
